Education
I am a student at the University of Northern Iowa in my third year. I am studying TESOL, which is teaching English to learners of other languages. I have also studied at Hawkeye Community College, where I received my certification as a Nurses Assistant (CNA). My current GPA is 3.34 at the college level. As a high school student I graduated with a 3.7.
Experience
I have volunteered in a special education classroom in my home town where I assisted a student with math and reading homework. I have also volunteered in my churches school where I have worked with students in areas such as reading, writing, and math from k-12. This year I am currently a tutor at Lincoln elementary every Tuesday and Thursday as part of the America Reads program. I assist four forth grade boys with their homework focusing mostly on math, spelling and reading. After 20 minuets, we then move on to the novel we are reading together. After we read for about 20 minutes we them partake in an activity relating to the book. I want to be a tutor because I love teaching. I love being able to work with students and help them achieve the goals and accomplishments they are capable of. I have already taken my level ones, which is the first step in the teacher education program. I was in a special education classroom for fifth grade at a school in Waterloo. There I had the opportunity to work with students with special need on their reading, spelling, and math.

Hobbies
I love to read read young adult fiction such as Harry Potter, The Percy Jackson Series, The Mortal Instruments, and many more. It's so much fun for me when I can read a book that I absolutely love and then see it on the big screen. I like to compare the movie to the book and critique it as to whether or not they depicted the story well enough. I also like crochet things such as hats, scarves, mittens, and flowers. I like to go on line and look for patterns that I've never done before, as well as experimenting with stitches to make my own patterns. On the more creative side I very much enjoy crayon melting canvases. It's so much fun for me to see a completely white canvas turn into a beautiful array of melted wax colors meshing against each other to create a wonderful piece of art.
